I've lived in a few different places in the country over the past 15-16 years...everywhere I've lived Football got top billing...fact is I can remember some of the better football teams from the areas I have resided in...but I don't know that I can remember a write up on any other high school sport in those places just because it wasn't covered as extensively.

My stepfather (from upstate NY) was floored to see the crowd at a LPD football game that we attended awhile back ago. Quite a few of the New England area states give soccer the top billing. It depends on where you are. Evidently, North Carolina must not put alot of stock in the gridiron either (from the sparse crowds I saw watching my cousin play in front of)

Places I lived in the US included Lawton OK, El Paso TX, Honolulu HI, San Fran CA, and I spent alot of time in Dallas and various places in GA...so, I didn't go north..but about every other region of the country...and I was basing my response on that.

Kelly baseball...what is it 10 out of the last 11 years they made it to the state tourny? Won more district titles then everybody else in the league combined (since 71).
The guy coaching before Wyerick was there (can't remember his name) only had 1 or 2 losing season in 31 years (it was either his 1st or 2nd year).

The overall program is ranked either 1st or 2nd in the state in wins (3A through 1A) and I am pretty sure state titles too.

I just hope they can compete with Virginia High year in and year out now. Va High just seems like they always have a very solid 1-9 squad, and usually anywhere from 2-3 guys every year go on to college and play.

It is debatable, but has either team had a losing season? When was the last one for either program? Im not really asking which is preferred, football or baseball. It truly is impressive that both programs can boast such an impressive resume.

I see no one commented on the bigger shock or dissapointment of the past season.

Last losing season for PV football was 1977. They have had 5 losing seasons in the schools history dating back to 1959, I think 3 of those were in a row back in the 60's.

I think Kelly had a losing season Wyricks first year but still made it to state. (Dang missed fly ball kept RC from being there for the first time).

I personally would rank Kelly's baseball as slightly more dominant than PV's football program. In the last 27 years if we are looking at it from the standpoint of when the state titles were starting to be produced, I would venture to say Kelly has regional titles in baseball than PV in football. Also, they have more semifinal wins since they have lost 3 finals to PV's 1.

Overall, both are great programs no doubt about it, but I will give the edge in true dominance to Kelly.

It really is so hard because the argument often falls on players, such as you take away the Jones and you take away yada yada yada, which is not the case PV had incredible teams with out the Jones Bros during their years, same can be said for Kelly, Kelly had better teams if you take away Bates, it just so happens that the most dominant teams also have had the most dominent players. I dont mean to create any problems, it was just a debate we had one day on the way to a ball game this summer. I think its a push, to much sucess and pride with both programs, often people are beat before they tale the field against either one. I give respect to both, just wondered what the old timers would think as well.

The thing is for the last 30 years, Kelly hasn't made it to regionals say 4 times. Of those, times, they generally always make it to the finals, and hardly ever travel for the quarterfinals. I can only think of what 00,03, & 06. Those years may not be exact, but pretty accurate. They probably have 22 of the last 30 regional championships, and are played on a "neutral site", but some are at the home of the who you are playing. That is what gives them an edge over PV to me.

Generally, if PV isn't the #1 seed, they havent fared well in regional competition, especially in recent years.
